私は動物を被写体に、存在の気配やまなざしに焦点を当てたポートレート作品を制作している。
動物を「野生動物」や「被写体」としてではなく、一つの個体として向き合うことを試みている。

ポートレートに加え、動物それぞれの個性が表れる行動や相互の関わりの瞬間も撮影している。
多くの種が、生息地の破壊や環境の変化、人間の活動の影響によって静かにその数を減らしている。
しかしその変化は、私たちの日常の中ではほとんど意識されることがない。

私は、動物園で出会う個体も、野生の環境で出会う個体も、ともに撮影の対象としている。
それぞれ異なる状況にありながらも、写真を通して見つめたいのは、種という分類の背後にある一つひとつの存在である。

動物園は、絶滅危惧種の保護や繁殖に取り組み、将来的な野生復帰を目指す保全の拠点でもある。
そうした場所で出会う個体の姿を記録することは、私たちが見過ごしている現実と向き合うための試みでもある。

私の作品は、動物たちの姿を記録するだけでなく、
人間が無意識のうちに見過ごしてしまう存在へと目を向けるためのきっかけでありたいと考えている。

My work focuses on animals, with particular attention to their presence, gaze, and individuality.
Through portraiture, I attempt to encounter animals not merely as wildlife subjects, but as individual beings.

Beyond portraiture, I also photograph moments of behavior and interaction that reveal the character of each animals.
Many species are quietly declining due to habitat loss, environmental change, and human activity.
Yet these changes often remain distant from our daily awareness.

I photograph animals in different contexts, including both zoological settings and the wild.
Although these environments differ, what I seek through photography is the presence of each individual behind the category of species.

Modern zoos also play an important role in conservation, protecting endangered species and supporting breeding programs aimed at future reintroduction to the wild.
Photographing animals encountered in such places becomes a way to reflect on realities that often remain unseen.

My work is not only a record of animals, but also an attempt to draw attention to the beings we too easily overlook.
略歴 Biography
小川 千夏
写真家。神奈川県生まれ。東京在住。
写真家。神奈川県生まれ。東京在住。
幼少期に絵本『カロリーヌとゆかいな8匹』シリーズを愛読し、人間と動物が対等に共存する世界観に強い影響を受ける。大学時代より本格的に美術鑑賞を始め、社会人となってからは海外を訪れる中でバロック絵画に傾倒する。欧州各国（イタリア、フランス、ロシアなど）の美術館を巡る一方、野生動物の観察を目的とした旅（東南アフリカ、インド、スリランカ、ガラパゴス、中南米、南極域など）を重ねてきた。
この「芸術への探求」と「野生動物との対峙」という二つの経験の融合が、現在の制作の基盤となっている。
2018年、JEARA日本アート教育振興会「プラクティカルフォト講座」の受講を契機に本格的に写真制作を開始。絶滅危惧種の動物を人間の肖像写真の様式で記録する作品シリーズを制作し、「無関心への抵抗」と「個の尊厳」をテーマに活動している。
Chinatsu Ogawa
Photographer based in Tokyo, Japan.
As a child, Ogawa was deeply influenced by the picture-book series Caroline and Her Eight Friends, which depicts a world where humans and animals coexist as equals. This early experience shaped her view of animals and their relationship with humans.
During her university years she developed a strong interest in art, and later became particularly drawn to Baroque painting while traveling abroad. She visited museums across Europe—including Italy, France, and Russia—while also pursuing wildlife observation through travels to regions such as East and Southern Africa, India, Sri Lanka, the Galápagos Islands, Central and South America, and Antarctica.
The intersection of these two experiences—her exploration of art and her encounters with wildlife—forms the foundation of her photographic practice.
In 2018, after attending the Practical Photography Program organized by the Japan Art Education Association (JEARA), she began working seriously in photography. Her work centers on portraying endangered animals through the visual language of human portraiture, exploring themes of resistance to indifference and the dignity of individual existence.
